Keloid Scars |
The are firm smooth growths which can occur anywhere in the body. they occur as a response to minor or major skin trauma. Keloid scars may form after an insect bte, piercing, episode of Acne or after a wound heals. The response may not be immediate, the scar may be seen months after the initial skin trauma.
People with dark skin seem to be more prone to keloids, however they may affect anyone and may also run in families. Keloid scars are benign growths but can become quite large and unsightly.
How can they be treated?
At Elixir-Medispa we use a variety of methods. we use silicone gel sheets to dehydrate the scar and improve its appearance. Injecting the steroid with a steroid may also help to shrink it. There is always the risk with Keloid scars that the Keloid scar can increase in size again.
